PEI (Ultem) Sheet Rod Machining Components

This Sheet & Rod is an amorphous engineering thermoplastic. It has high heat resistance 338°F (170°C), high strength and modulus, as well as excellent electrical insulating properties, which are stable over wide ranges of temperature and frequency and considered one of the most high performance plastics. Flexible ether group linkages ensure relatively easy processing. PEI-POLYETHERIMIDE (ULTEM) is an amber-to-transparent thermoplastic with characteristics similar to the related plastic PEEK. PEI-POLYETHERIMIDE (ULTEM) is cheaper than PEEK, but is lower in impact strength and usable temperature.

PEI (ULTEM) Properties
PEI is one of the most commonly used high performance plastic materials. It is an amorphous polyetherimide. It is characterized by excellent thermal performance and high mechanical stiffness and strength. Flame retardant, it possesses good resistance to acids and is capable of operating continuously in steam and hot water. It is perfect for more demanding applications. PEI (GF) 30 is 30% glass reinforced and provides enhanced stiffness, strength and dimensional stability.

PEI (Ultem) Feature
The material has excellent dimensional stability in a variety of environments as moisture absorption is low. Although unfilled PEI is not a particularly good bearing material, internally lubricated PEI, particularly carbon fiber filled grades, do show good friction and wear characteristics.
